VAC Shifter

Terry and I loaded his VAC14 to transport to a new location, and as we started to load in reverse on an angle of the beaver tail, the old girl popped out of gear. We started again to load and she then slipped out of reverse and into a FWD gear. Rather than assume , I would think all we need to do is lift the shifter cover and realign the shifting collars? CM

yes and see how detent balls n springs look. spring might be broke, weak or
missing or the bolt that holds fork to rod might be loose

the gear may be worn on the corners and won't engaged. I believe the reverse idler rides on its own shaft high and off to the side. The gear rides on a brass
bushing. The bushing could be worn out allowing the gear to not align properly. Been several years but I replaced 3rd gear and the reverse idler gear and
bushing in my 1950 VAC. So pop the top and have a look, its a pretty easy job to assess the reverse problem. gobble

Shift collars are trapped in the forks, they are not going to move unless the fork is loose on the shifter rail or the shifter rail itself moves.
