Side Shields

Ok Guys here goes nothing!!
I misunderstood, We are only requiring side sheilds on The 12 MPH classes. John Deere is included in this. Reason being is that if they have enough in the motor to be in these classes they are just as prone to exploding as any thing else is!!
We are asking that all modifieds have shields but are not requiring them in 4 and 8 mph classes.
What to make them out of is a $100 question. Use your best judgement. NATPA says to make them from 1/8 aluminum or the equivalent in steel. IMO that means you should at least use 16 gauge.
Why do I say this? I have seen 16 gauge stop some pretty hefty foreign objects and the ocassional exploding fan blade in a cotton gin. But as I said, use you own judgement. Just don't think that a "Bugs Bunny Sheet" will get by though.

Now, all that being said, Guys if we don't police ourselves on these safety issues then the insurance company's and God only knows what other legal types wil tell us how to do it. So lets keep safety at the forefront of our hobby sport.

Don't worry too much about people being upset over the side shield rule. If it's necessary to have the rule for the sport to continue, I don't think there would be more than a handful that would miss the opportunity to come to Tunica. They'd probably just go ahead and build the shields. I figure there's more dissatisfaction with "rules" and "decisions" that deal with the "GRay" area of matters at Tunica. "GRay" is in no way a reference to your handle on this forum.

There are a lot of us who are very happy that the event will continue this year, there was some rumor in our area about sponsorship, and other things.
We look forward to it each year for many reasons, mostly to see such a large number of tractors and antique pullers at a single pull. We always have a great time as do a lot of other pullers. We will be getting our res. in this week.
Will you be having early sign up like before?

Hey Gray A(Ol Gray 460), do the side shields need to be made so they can be opened for inspection at any time? Do we need to have wrenches handy to make things easier?

I believe dad and I will use corregated tin from a shotgun house for shields, they have a little rust on them, should look good.
