skid loader electronics question

Hello All,
My question boils down to this. Is it possible to remove a non structural roll cage on a modern skid loader? The electronics issue stems from the ignition and safety swiches being placed in the roll bar roof. I am thinking about the late 1990s Case and Bobcat machines, before the straight lift path loader arms were in use. The reason I ask, is that our old loader, a Lahman model 30, has gone down for the last time and we need a machine able to enter doors with no higher the 6 feet of clearance......old style hog sheds. I realize that safety is a concern, but we had been using the old machine for 20 something years with no problems. So, is it do-able. ? Thanks for your input.

Not real sure on this but a New Holland LX665 is real close to that with the ROPS inplace and a LX565 is a littel lower , we also have a head room problem in the bottom of the old barn and that is the main reason that we went with the New Holland. as it just fits.

Non standard height tires may lower it some as well. I did no research, but there are tires for every rim! JimN

I don't have the numbers in front of me right now but we have an older Case 1816 that's about 72" tall and I was thinking that the 1840 might even be a little shorter than our 1816 is. I know that the 1825 is a few inches shorter than our 1816 but they are a few inches longer too.

The 150 is just a bit over 6 feet, but I think you could skin it down a few inches on the tires and still have some ground clearance...

I don't see why you couldn't move stuff around and chop the top on the bobcats, but the newholland has a structural roll cage which is part of the loader. I would not under any circumstance cut, modify or otherwise defeat that canopy though.... I just wouldn't. I've had too much stuff come down on mine. I've been saved on more than one occasion by that thing. I kow it's only in a building, and it'll never happen, and....
someday it'll be out loading something else and that something else will land in your lap.

There is alot of Bobcats around with the top of the cab cut off to gain access under feeders and drinkers inside a chicken house. It does work but it's and wierd feeling to sit in one with nothing over your head. They take the dash panels down and just tie-strap them to the side of the cage.

how mutch room do you need?
can you cut the top of the door with out weaking the building. drive yp to the door and see just what you got to have. it might suprise you

Not on the new skid loaders it will not work and don’t even try it cause it impossible to do and very unsafe that is why they don’t make skid loaders with cabs on any more of all people getting and killed on them. They make small skids for the jobs in tight spots. Like a Gehl 4240 3640 or 3940. I just bought a brand new 3640 Monday of this week for my young stock barn very low build and small the skid is plenty small enough I could go with a 4240 a little bigger on and still be all right.
