Slight Computer Problem

My computer rarely gets a break with all five of us sharing it. My son was using it earlier today and says he accidently pressed the F12 key above the return key. I have now lost the forward and reverse arrows, favorites function, etc. If I run the curser to the top of the screen it's there. How do I get it back to displaying it at all times?

Just press the F11 key , which is what he probably pressed anyway as that is the key that does the job of making the top icon bar disappear on my and all of the other IBM / Windows based computers that I've used.
