Slip Clutch or something

Does anyone know what a devise is called that allow a shaft to continue to turn after power source stops. I am looking for something that would work similar to a ratchet working in a clockwise direction and then allow devise to keep spinning when gear reduction unit stops. I have looked at PTO adapters ect. they all work in wrong direction for me. This is for my childrens swing ride I built for them. I have been using 3/4" rachet heads but they eventually fail. I think a slip clutch requires to much torque to work as well???
Thanks Steve

Maybe not heavy duty enough, but how about the rear hub from a bicycle?

If you can drive the shaft instead of the female part of the pto clutch it would work in reverse of the normal application. hth WaltMo

Ya your going to have a hard time finding any thing since 99% of farm stuff turn the same way as the PTO does. You maybe able to find something that is switchable like that ratchet but it will be hard to find

GOOGLE "overruning clutch" or "one-way clutch" and you get THOUSANDS of pages of information and links to suppliers.

No reason you couldn't use one for a tractor PTO and make up the adapters to flip it end-for-end, making it work in the correct direction for your application.

Another CHEAP source of an overruning clutch would be the starter drive "Bendix" from a large starter for a diesel engine.

Also, various hay balers used a one-way clutch in the PTO driveline.

Here is a drawing of one for a Deere baler...

There should be an overrunning clutch PTO adapter available for a farmall Cub, The PTO shaft on a Cub turns opposite most other tractors,

Besides balers, forage choppers and some other machines use an over-running clutch. Depending on speed, torque, etc....might be able to fab something. Older manure spreaders used a ratchet/pawl setup on the apron drive- so did silage wagons...before mfgrs went to worm gear drive.

Thanks Fellas. I think I am going to go the pawl ratchet idea and maybe search around for a bendix starter or farm al pto adapter.
Thanks Again !
Steve
