small engine question

Hey all, need an opinion on this. I have a 91 briggs 14 hp that started to burn a bit of oil last season.

I figured the rings were starting to wear so I tore into it. They seemed to have worn a bit compared to the new ones I bought.

My question is, there is a small pin head sized pit in the side of my cylinder. There is no other noticeable wear in the cylinder that I can see.

Should I just leave we enough alone and try it as is, or should I attempt to repair this pinhole? I would guess with a dab of JB or something and then hoNE it a bit.

It has a cast iron sleeve since it is an IC briggs.

Just looking for opinions since I don't have a lot invested.

Hopefully this pic will show

you can ignore it and hope for the best (won't have total ring seal, it will smoke more than if it were perfect - but likely less than it does now). Or you could fix it right by stripping the block down and boring to the smallest oversize available that removes that pit, get the appropriate oversize piston and ring set and have a like-new engine.

If it were me I'd slap the new standard size rings in and run it (after deglazing with a ball hone).

SMOKIE , EH?

I would not do nutt'N except pull the plug when done for the season. Go to NAPA and beg, buy, or simply steel a can of "sea foam, (tm) stuff and fill up the cylinder and put away over long stostorage (winter) season. Keep he DRY.

LONG TERM STORAGE prep for shipping to someone who may need to put her in service, again, later.

Run her dry of fuel, though before shutt'n down.
