Small Engine question

Hi.

This message probably belongs in the garden tractor section but we've all got small mowers too so here's the question:

My Kohler Command 25 hp twin on my JD mower is cycling and won't run without choke as if it is fuel starved. The whole air intake system is in order so I figured I'd make the main jet a little richer. I take a look at the motor and the manual and see that the jet is set once electronically at the factory and there is no way to adjust it. There is just an electronic plug into the carb.

What should I do to get this running right again?

This will be very simple for the good folks on the Graden Tractor Board. Tom

remove that solenoid needle valve, pull the needle out of the end and screw the body back in, if it runs right, pick up a new one, that is there so that when you shut the engine off hot, It seats against the jet to shut off the fuel into the engine so that it does not diesel. If it is only opening part way it starves the engine and gives you the prob your having.

Hey double D I think you answered the problem for mine and it diesels after I shut it off and doesn't want to idle unless I slowly pull it back to idle or slightly choke it. I have a Kohler Command engine too.CT

ALso put a new plug in it. The same happened on my briggs generator and the combination fixed it.

Hello FARGO.
Sounds like a fuel problem.
Unplug the wire at the carburator. The electric solenoid vave has a short piece of wire with a plastic tie wrap, cut the tie and remove the valve and the carburator bowl. Check and see if it is stuck in the down position, and while you are in there, blow it clean. You will most likely find the fuel bowl full af stuff. Check the fuel tank and filter as well. Take out the spark plug chek the condition and reset it at .040.
