Small Rant or Personal Problem

There is a magazine that comes out every month at this time that seems to be green and in the last few months added another writer who just loves to refer to the 2 cylinder JD's as "Slappers" now my deal is the use of the phrase "Slappers" to describe the 2-cyls. just grinds my gears to no end, I don't mind words like putt-putt, 2-bangers, johnny poppers, 2-lungers, or a few others to describe them but I wonder if I am the only one that thinks the term "Slappers" is moronic or do I need to straighten out my shorts?

I agree, the term "slappers" is moronic and pathetic. I don't suscribe to that magazine for reasons I won't go into, so I've not seen it myself. If it bothers you, write the editor (don't bother to e-mail or call, he's never there and e-mails are ignored) and tell him what you think. It may not change a thing, but you'll feel better and it might get his attention. If enough people do it, perhaps it will change.

Hmm, speaking from a purely hypothetical stance, how the **HECK** is "SLAPPERS" correlated with TWO-CYLINDERS?

What makes them slap? I think the writer is more STRANGE than ignorant.

I'm just wondering if this person has only had limited encounters with well worn out 2 cyls. and the clutch lever has "slapped" him in the kneecap ?

I have heard others complain they never liked 2 cyls. because of this. I ask them if they EVER heard of fixing the clutch linkage so it wasn't worn out then they would of had a whole different experience.

Another one about as stupid: Years ago Deere was working on a rotary (Wankel) engine. The guys working with it dubbed it with the name,"SCORE". Guess they didn't know what score means in the piston engine world. It was an acronym where the "ORE" stood for omnivorous rotary engine, as it was supposed to eat a variety of fuels. I can't recall what the "SC" stood for.

I think I still have some literature on those laying around. I picked it up either at the JD headquarters or the very first Expo in 1987 ? Alone with some on the engines that were to be put into GM medium duty trucks that never were.
