I was at a show yesterday and I saw a "Smithco- RED RYDER". Its a Trike with the Motor mounted on top of the front wheel and it drives the front tire . It has a small bed on the back and a long bench seat . Its a Wisconsin engine on it and its pretty cool. I actually bought it and have it home now . Has any one ever seen these ? Any INFO on them ? I am trying to figure out how old it is ......

i did a yahoo search, go to wfmiller.com, they sell those. looks like they are used for golf course maintenance.

Gleenster , same thing I did this morning . I see the ones they have for sale. Its very close to a Cushman , like the Golf courses use. I need more info , like what engine they came with and years of production ......

Red Riders were made in the 70's. They had a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. They were made for golf courses and were ideal for carrying sod cutters, rollers and walk behind mowers and greens mowers. They were very low to the ground unlike a Cushman. They didn't have suspension and speed was controlled by throttle only. Cushmans had a 3 on the tree transmission and clipped along pretty fast. Red Riders also had a little beaver spiker attachment that was put on instead of the box. Many are still in use but usually have another engine mounted. My dad sold them new and everybody used to always complain about them, yet they always kept working. Usually the reverse system was the first to go and sometimes the chain would come off. The drive sprocket was almost as big as the front wheel. Strangely enough they had pretty good traction and were stable. Smithco also makes sprayers and sand trap rakes.
