I have been working on this second SMTA over the winter. Progress is slow, but at least I am making progress! I thought it would be quick and easy to get running, BUT when I took off the oil pan to clean it, I discovered a large chunk of aluminum laying in the bottom
yepā¦. skirt was broken off one piston. I pulled all 4 pistons and then discovered cracks in the skirts of 2 other pistons
Along about then I was going through my stuff and found a piston & sleeve kit I forgot I had! So I tore the engine completely down and it got a complete rebuilt. The only thing it didnāt need was a crankshaft grind, but new cam, rod & main bearings, new P& S kit, all new gaskets & seals. Head already had new hardened valve seats installed, just had to have the seats cut & ground and head surfaced and put in all new valves. The Speeco widefront and ih weight bracket on the front I sold. I have a Schwartz WF in decent condition that I put under it instead. It just needed a little work, namely new pivot bushings and free up the stuck tie rods. Oh, and one hub was messed up inside and had to be repaired. The transmission deck has a big hole it as well, just rusted through under where the battery box was. No doubt From spilled battery acid. I bought a good transmission deck and proper battery box & seat to install. There is still a lot of little things to do, but one bit at a timeā¦.
