Snap-on Tig Welder

OK. With all the welding posts lately, my question involves a Snap-On welder.
My brother is a Snap-On dealer and he has an almost new Tig welder a customer can't pay for and asked if I wanted it. Comes with all the accessories. He said I can also get a Mig wire feed attachement for it. Anyone here have experience with these Snap-On welders?

Don't know if it is true or not, but what I've read is Snap-On welders are just re-badged, (insert major manufacture name here). Ask your brother if he knows who made the welder for Snap-On. Do you know if it is AC/DC? If you can add a Mig attachment to it does it have CV? Or is it just a wire feed attachment?

It kinda depends on the price. Is he going to give it to you? I don't think Snap-On makes their own welders, which means they are a cheap welder with a Snap-On label and a Snap-On price.

TIG plus MIG means it's a multiprocess (constant current/constant voltage) welder. Does Snap-On sell such a beast? I can't find any multiprocess welders in their current catalog; perhaps your brother is mistaken.

From what I have read, almost all Snap On welders are made by Systematics. You can search and find their website. I have a mig welder I bought about 20 years ago from my Snap On dealer. I did some reading on a couple welding forums and got some good info.

They still make the welder I have and it still looks almost exactly the same.

I would have to agree though, unless you can get it for a GREAT deal, I would pass and get a Lincoln or a Miller. Stick with Snap On for tools that don't have cords.

Snap-on welders are made by Systematics in Westchester,Pa. I have 2 of their 300Amp Mig machines.I have one set up on Aluminum and One on Steel and one or the other of them gets used every day. The one set up on Aluminum is 20 years old and has never had the cover off of it. They are tough as pine knots and they have the best customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. If you have a problem, call them, they will put a Tech on the phone right then and can talk you right through what you need. If you need parts they will ship them out the same day.

Systematics make very good machines. Being it's sold by Snap-On parts shouldn't be a problem. It's worth buying if you can get it for a good price. If you can get an equivalent new Miller or Lincoln for less money, that might be the better option though.

I've got a Snap-On [CK Systematics] mig welder..Had it about 20 years now..Very minor problems..Snap-On YA-212
