Snowblower pto drive

I just brought home a lundell snow blower, and hooded it up. The pto line is just a little long. I had to lift the blower up to connect it. When I let it down, the hole thing swayed to the side. The line is running at a slight angle and is solid. Can I get away with this or should I be getting a shorter drive line.

Sounds like the weight of the blower is pushing on the PTO shaft. Sounds like bad news. Could be real hard on the tractor PTO bearings and seals. Does the blower PTO shaft telescope freely? I wouldn't run that blower with the shaft the way it is. Most farm stores should have generic PTO shafts.

I think you should shorten the PTO shaft before using, or you risk damaging the tractor, blower or both. You can likely just slide the shafts apart and saw 4" off of each. You might get away with just cutting one IF they are not bottoming out.

You deffinitely need to shorten the drive shaft so you don't damage something.

If you don't get that shaft shortened, you're gonna be in here asking how to straighten a bent tractor pto shaft and/or rebuilding yokes.

My uncle had this same problem with his. It was just long enough that he fixed the problem by borrowing a quick hitch to see if that would extend it out enough. It did, so he went to a few auctions and found himself a quick hitch.

I cut the one on my brush cutter off when I added a slip clutch last summer, was not a problem. Do not run it with too long a shaft!

We called the local implement shop. For about 100 bucks we ordered a couple longer spears to hook up to the bottom 2 of the 3pt. No surgery required!

Depending on what category 3pt you've got, local Harbor Freight stores have a quick hitch in stock for a very reasonable price.

However, it may still be cheaper to get a shorter PTO shaft. Cheapest by far is to cut the existing shaft.
