according to Webster:
Motor, a machine which develops power through rotary action, as an electric motor or an internal-combustion engine; an automobile.

Well, if you think that's bad, my last name has 12 letters in it, had it all of my life, and still can't spell it. First letter's a K, and the last 11 are one big squiggly circle with a dot over it, cause I always dot the I at the end that we polish folks usually end with. Nope, can't spell my own name, and worse than that, when I run into someone from the old country, they say I don't pronounce it right either. Now, how messed up is that?

Mark, I know about the long last names. My ex-In-Laws have 12 letters in their last name....Schiefelbein.
took me a long time to get it right..

Bailer has to be in the top 4 for sure.

Never knew there were so many boaters on this web site. :)

I cannot spell worth a darn, & had good grades in everything else. I have to re-write things to keep words at 5 letters or less.....

My High School sweet heart's name and mine had the same number of letters.I thought it was destaney,But,she did not.You can't count on anything.

Spelling, hummmm I even spell a word wrong myself at times. Perhaps it"s just a type error even.
But sometimes its cause of other sickness I have to deal with. So I never correct others.
Diesel or deisel, you know the difference. Merry Christmas to you anyway.

I went to school with a lot of kids whose parents had came from the Ukraine in Russia. Most of their names ended with y. Most were excellent soccer players. They settled along the Chesapeake & Delaware canal in MD. Its the waterway from the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake Bay. Hal
PS: We use to swim in that canal too.

Mark Twain said he felt sorry for any person who could only spell a word one way. Guess he didn"t need to feel sorry for tractor people, did he?

Waukesha??? Is that the name of the starting center for University of Tennessee"s Lady Vols basketball team?

Spelling always came relatively easy to me. It seemed that others didn't have it so easy. A little further along in life I found that the things I struggled with, others found to be easy. It is a good thing that we are not all alike, as it would be an awful dull world.

Be careful what name you call a wonen's team. One person has already gotten in trouble about that this year. LOL

I was always told an engine developes its own power. A motor gets its energy from an external source.

We use face book at our house too.Awhile back a city friend of mine took some of her friends to see our farm as they have never seen livestock before. After returning home, she posted the pictures on her facebook album.Another friend of hers who wasn't along on the visit made a comment on one of the pictures. As one of her friends were yawning, she got her pic taken. Her absent friend commented"you can tell by the look on ......'s face the smell of teh place".
I was p!$$ed at first, assuming that she thought that a hick from the "sticks" probbly doesn't have electricity, let alone internet. Then I proceded to inform her of the natural ventilation process and the cu' per min of air exchange and also added,"By the way,you spelled THE incorectly".I snickered over that one half the morning.pd.

Yes I agree it looks "tacky", and just a little effort with one of the online dictionaries or even by "googling" the word can solve errors. I'm one of the worst spellers and occasionally miss one despite using a dictionary. This occurs because I believe my memory of the word spelling is accurate or it looks "OK". The theory when I was taught was to not sound out the word, but rather to just memorize the spelling. Worked great for the first 15 or so years. Not so great when you don't use the words for the next ten or more years.

I noticed the misspelling but didn't give it a second thought. Matter of fact I didn't even care because thats the stuff ulcers are made of.

Here"s the key: Schiefelbein is a German name, so when you have two vowels together....the second one is the one you pronounce. She-fel-bine! BTW- any relation to the Schiefelbein Angus Farms of MN?

Spelling never gave me any trouble. In fact it gave me couple dictionaries. BUT hooked on phonics, I thought would be good for public speaking. Guess I am not old enough(64). I could not even start the program. My grandson breezed through it. Probably bad ears, huh! My excuse.

Hey jjon, I guess if everything needs to be perfect, I think there should be a comma after the word "class", and either a colon or semi-colon after the word "is"!!!

msb, do you realize what you said...GIVE me an example of an engine that developes it own power without "any extrenal source."

Keith

JMS, thier ancesters were Russian. And the way they pronounce thier last name is Scha-fel-bine

I don't know if they are related to the Schiefelbein Angus Farms of MN. Father-in-law and family moved to OR from CO in the mid 60's.

I do the same thing. At times I come across words Ive never written before.I did well in spelling bees but at 70 things are changing.
