Has anyone used a log splitter on a WD or WD45 and had any luck?

Can be done but it would be painfully slow and you wold spend a lot of time just splitting one piece of wood. Those pumps are very low GPM but high pressure

It would work well if you added hydraulic pump to the front of the crank, or a PTO mounted pump, effectively having a separate hydraulic system.

I BUILT A WOODSPLITTER ABOUT 5 YRS AGO. I HAVE RAN IT SUCCESSFULLY OFF OF MY WD. HAVE NOT HAD ONE PROBLEM. IT SPLITS MY WOOD AS FAST AS I WANT TO GO. MOST YEARS I SPLIT ABOUT 10 RICKS OF WOOD. GOOD LUCK. BUY AMERICAN

Need to match to the right cylinder. Tractor runs about 3200 psi, maybe 5-7gpm. I believe the D17 is 7 gpm, WD would be similar, smaller if anything. Right gives you normal speed and push.

Another option is to mount the pump on the pto or belt pulley.

I have dads WD45 set up with a 2 way hyd. Bought a 2 way cyl for high pressure, you can split all the wood you can get to the tractor in a very short time. It is far faster than the neighbors 12 hp gas factory set up.
