squealing loud

man, this baby gets screaming, seems like the fanbelt it lasts for the first couple minutes after startup, if I spray the belt with something it stops, whats causing this ?...need a new belt ?.too loose, too tight ?

Sounds like a loose belt but could be a bearing hanging up in the water pump of generator/alt.

I had the same exact problem. I drilled a new hole in the alternator mounting bracket, away from the tractor. I pulled the top of the alternator out some and tightened in the new hole, problem solved.

uh.. IS it loose?

can you turn the alt by hand ?

will the belt deflect more than an inch, pressed in the middle of it's open travel?

is the bottom of the belt stuck down inthe pulley? remember v belts like side contact vs bottoming in the pulley..

It may have a narrow belt . I can't remember the size but a tractor needs a wide belt may be 5/8.

ok, looks like the belt in the fan pulley is small, bottoming out totally and is a good fit on the alternator, the pulleys are different sizes...
