Stabilizer Bars

Guys,
I"ve been looking for a picture on the stabilizer bars hooked up w/ shreader. I"ve got a 9N & having trouble getting the stabilizer bars to hook up w/ the sway arms on the shreader. Does anyone know the distance between the holes of your stabilizer bar? Mine measures 31 1/2" (which I purchased at TSC) & all I can get hooked up is 1 stabilizer bar (unless I modify the other). And if I do that the driveline on the shreader is not sitting inline w/tractor. Any help would be appreciated.

Your mounts under the axle housing may not be correct. Do you know if they're homemade?
My bars are 31 1/2 too.

If your pins on the brackets under your fenders don't *exactly* line up with your lower lift pins, forgit it, or werk on it.

Ford specs on the bars call for 31.625 for length on the bars,so yours are the right ones,it's got to be your attaching point.

I just looked at some at nnalert's site & they have 4 holes so surely yours is just off one hole. All I can figure. :?

Brave;
I've been through this with many on this subject, so listen close.
Look at this picture closely, and you will see a diff. in them. On the 9,2,and8N bracket, the hole is closer to the end, than the NAA, etc. bracket hole.
Now look at your brackets you have installed, to see which ones you have. If you have the NAA, etc. bracket, you have the wrong ones on your 9N.
The optimum brackets for the TSC stabilizer bars, are the ones that have the 4 holes in them, for adjusting.
If you do not have the right brackets under the fender/axle area, you will never get yer bars to line up.

Thanks for the pictures. Will check it out first thing in the morning. I'm not sure when these brackets were put on the tractor. I just assumed (my mistake) they were the correct ones. Just got the tractor last December. I'm just now getting most of the parts I need (Thanks to this fourm) & FO-4 manual. Where would you find the part numbers for these brackets under the fender/axle area? My FO-4 manual is not showing them or maybe I've missed them. Once again I appreciate the info.

Went through this just a couple of months ago. Wjen I got mine it had the 4 hole brackets under the fender and they had been rigged and welded to try to make the wrong stabilizer bars work. Then I bought a set of original brackets and thought surely this would solve the problem but they were the wrong brackets for 9N/2N. Got another set of the right brackets and new set of stabilizer bars. Now it is right. Like Dunk said, the under the fender bracket pins and the lift arm pins must be pointing at each other. Mine were off by a good inch with the wrong brackets...Won't work. It's a simple thing but it must be right or the lift will bind and possibly break something.

Thanks for the reply.
I did not mean to imply that you DO have the wrong brackets, just that you need to make sure you have the right ones.
TSC has the right brackets for the bars you bought. If you do have the wrong brackets, go to TSC and order the right ones for their bars.
Much simpler that way. Then you only have to put them on your "N", and adjust them.
If you had posted about needing stab. bars, I would have seen yoyur post and recommended buying the whole set from them.....But how were you to know that>>>>
Anyway, check out everything and give me a hollar, to let me know if you need more help!!!!
I am usually here, or will be sooner or later.

Good luck.

Here is something for you to ponder:

StabilizerStayBarset-up-1.jpg

This way if you ever buy Stay bars you will know what they are, and how they relate to your 9N.

You can also get these at TSC.

The mounts didn't look like they are homemade (now that I got a picture from G.B.) to compare it to. Will put the old chicken eye on it tomorrow. OR maybe I need to back to TSC get different stabilizer bars (adjustable).

If you got the stabilizer bars from TSC, they will be the right ones. All you should need to buy is the right brackets. The brackets that you will get from TSC, to go with thier bars, have a flat side to them and a half moon shaped set of four holes. That is the only adjusting for those bars.

Let me know what ya find under your axles.
I'm almost up by 5-6 am every morning, reading the net and drinkin' way too much coffee.

Did you raise the lift and push it left or right to get the other stay bar on? That's what I do plus I have to adlust the leveling gear box.Always fun hooking the hog up..

Sean,
I noticed from your middle pic (And thanks for those) that the right side of 1 of the stabilizer bars is bent a little in the middle. Is this a little modification you made ( to get it hooked up) or did it bend from use?

GB,
How did you get these pics on this reply? I've got some pics of the brackets but, am not sure how to insert them. They look like the correct ones to me but, not 100% positive.

You have to open a free account at Photo Bucket.com, then upload your pix there, then copy and paste yer pic. on the post you are making here.

OR.... upload your pix to parts and pieces on the left of this page,(just follow the instructions there) , then let me know they are there and I will post them for you here.

Sent the pics (probably in the wrong place). Let me know if you can see them. I'm off to TSC and talk to them about their brackets.

Yer bracket do not match. Lft side appears to be right one, right side....Dunno...looks to be modified.
Here is a pic. to show the whole TSC kit...(comp. of YT)
You need the brackets /pins./and lynch pins.
Kit-stabbars.jpg

Take the new bars from TSC with you, and they can help ya with the right brackets.

Hi all,

My question is related....do all of you hook up stabilizer bars on both sides? I have only ever hooked up a stabilizer bar on one side. All the tractors I've been around over the years have been hooked up the same way, with a stabilizer bar on one side...bush hog, disc, etc.

Just wondered what the rest of you did??

Ed;
One stab. bar...alll that time...and never bent the bar????? That to me is amazing!!!
Stabilizer bars are used to keep the impliments used from moving side to side, and keep the impliment solidly behind yer tractor. Take one stab. bar off and you do not have that control with the impliment, only partial control on one side.
That said, and you have done it this long, and it works for ya,......I say go fer it!!!!!!!
I, on the other hand, like to see my impliments, solidly in place, squarely in back of my "N", therefore I always use both stabilizer bars.
To each his own....as they say!!!!!
JMHO

I have had the same problem, had a set of bars, both worked. Pin fell out of one, I bent it, bought replacement at TSC that appears identical and it is a hair short of working. frustrating. it's only about 1/4" different and as hard as I pull on it, it wont quite work.. hehe.. it's not like it's a whole hole off, just a fuzz.

[b:6ec720f9e1][i:6ec720f9e1]

Bill; That is funny........That darn fuzz will do it to ya every time!!!!!!
Ya might try loosening the brackets under the axle enough to get the stab. bar on, then cinch the nuts down on the bracket!!?????
Worth a try.???

I like your humor!!!!!!

Sean is at work, so I'll tell ya this. You can buy the whole set for $28.00, from nnalert's. They are listed in the three point list area on line!!

I'll have to look. I'm pretty sure my NAA only has the bracket on one side. Likewise, I can only picture one bracket on the 2000 back home. I'll look at the NAA tonight and the 2000 next time I make it back home. I've been using the disc on the NAA with no real issues, and the 2000 has pulled an old bush hog through some pretty rough use over the years.

That's not to say what we've always done is right!!!

When I was growing up on the farm (many years ago)
we only used a stab bar on one side & never had any trouble. I use'em on both sides today. I believe the old time stab bars were a lot tougher than what TSC sells today.

Just a note. When you buy parts from TSC the strength won't be as good as some of the older stuff. We actually bent the cross bar on our 8-n pulling a heavy load. I never would have thought a bar that thick could be cold bent. We also had a trailer reciever bend down that we bought there. I've actually seen several recievers that way when driving down the road. The foreign stuff just isn't up to par. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Bent it using my dirt scoop...I need to fix that!!! It dont help hooking up implements..

(quoted from post at 11:06:49 05/23/08)
Sean.. where did you find the black pieces you're using at the upper and lower ends of your limiter chains?

Do a search on ebay for limit chains the price is right...I got them from kraft implement....forgot to ship..Took forever to get them package broke open on the first shipment parts missing ...etc... left a - feedback LOL I did get a complete set from them but it took 2 months

where did you get those. I installed a loader on my 8 and the axle pins have to be re installed so bein the great welder that I am LOL these would give me some wiggle room
