Start Buying 2-70's 2-150's

Good Evening!
Had to post a final thought for the night before I head off to bed. I have been a member of the HPOCA since 1991, and have watched an interesting evolution taking place. As the ages of restorers/collectors/enthusiasts progresses to younger generations, it is interesting to watch what happens. Tractors that once were hard to sell at auction (ie 1855's) are now being restored! I grew up operating 1655's, 1855's, and 1950-T's. We loved our White 2-180, and hated to see it go at auction in 1998.
Long story short: the tractors of the '70's and '80's are now the 'cool' thing to restore. I personally am thrilled to see guys restoring White tractors! It's about time!
My suggestion: get a-hold of any 2-70's you can find. They were the last tractor to use an Oliver/Waukesha engine. Also, the 2-150 fits this category, as they were the last tractor to use Minneapolis-Moline engines. Plus, not that many 2-150's were made, especially factory open-station models.
I enjoy reading all of your posts! I wish I could visit each of your shops and machine sheds! Stay warm, and keep up the fine work on your tractors!

My 1955 is still in it's oringinal work clothes. Have no plans to dress her up in "Sunday go to Meeting" clothes for a while yet. She's still earning her keep. Besides, the 1955 is my "new" tractor. She has to take the work load off the "old" stuff! (smile)

I don't think that 585 is very gutless, if you ever ran one its got
a lot of low end power, more than my 2-155 white and they pull
very good, not saying they last a long time or don't have
problems but there not very gutless.

I'm in my late 20's and love the old muscle tractors era. Just like the muscle car era.

Oliver's, Whites, and IH are my favorites.

Have redone a 1066, a white and an Oliver are next on my list.

ya i ran one or wouldnt comment tractor was a fewyrs old with low hrs and it just didnt have it a 155 would walk away from it very easily as i have drove both didnt think it was all that close given theyre supposed to be close in hp 150 vs 157 in my opinion/experience a 135 would be a much closer match

Yeah the 155 has more up top power, but if your gonna work
then down at 1500rpms or lower that 585 defiantly has more
low end grunt, out in the field the 155 would be better but at a
tractor pull or pto work where you usually don't run it wide
open the 585 would take it. There both good tractors but I like
my1355 more

g1355 well i hope i didnt offend you they are good tractors in their own right as you mentioned and gutless may have been a bit harsh in retrospect if they work for what you are doing who am i to say any different i hope you get many good years of service from it but i still think it would be a fun cummins repower project good luck

we have a 2-150 and a 2-70 here the little one dropped a rod out the side with very few hours on a rebuild the big one was a tourque monster it was rebuilt a few years ago.and this last fall it started ticking in the top end that quickly turned into a loud knock then stopped suddenly there are a lot of good parts on both pumps and injectors on both have low hours. parts a getting to hard to find for them so we are going to send them down the road
