Starter questions

I am sick of all those safety switches and crap. My 2007 Chinese tractor quit starting with the key.
I immediately went to the solenoid on the starter and jump it there to start. No diagnosis no
problem. I jump it solid so there is no arcing or burning of terminals. I stand along side the
tractor, run the glow plugs with the key and jump it with a big philips screwdriver I keep right
there.

Try this, have someone hold the button in as if trying to
start it. Then take a hammer and tap the side of the
round main case of the starter. Tap with a swing equal
to what you would use to drive a smaller brad nail in a
board. If this works the brushes are wore down in the
starter so far they are not contacting properly, the taps
jar them slightly and help them contact. That means
the starter needs rebuilt. If that does not work you can
try the half turn of the solenoid contact stud. Unhook
the battery and remove the battery cable off the
starter solenoid stud. Take a Sharpie or hacksaw and
make a tick mark on the end so you know which side of
the terminal is facing the outer most point or away
from the tractor. There is a second nut that holds it in
the solenoid cap, take that loose and screw it back to
about a 1/4 inch from all the way off. If it is a little stiff
you may have to hold it as though you are trying to pull
it out to help it stay engaged in the internal square
locks like a carriage bolt. When you get it that loose
push the terminal in an turn it a half turn so you mark
now faces the tractor. Then reassemble hook up the
battery and try the starter again. There is a contact
face on the inside end of that stud that can burn away
and lose contact. When you turn it you place a new
surface to be contacted on the other half of the inside
terminal face. If this does not work pull the starter off.
