Starter runs after shut down

After shutting-off my NAA (original 6V system)the starter was running...not engaged but spinning. As I started to go get a wrench to disconnect cable, it stopped. I re-started the tractor and it worked fine.

Is this a simple starter switch issue?

Could be the solenoid but the wiring between the solenoid and transmission mounted starter switch is far more likely.

Check the wiring for bare or frayed isulation especially where the wire passes throuch the column support just in front of the switch. Be sure you have the proper grommet in the passage through the column support. If the wiring shorts to ground anywhere between the solenoid and the switch, the starter solenoid will be energized.

I had the same thing happen yesterday on a
motorcycle. The contacts on the starter solenoid
were very pitted and welded together. I removed
the solenoid, disassembled, and filed the copper
contacts smooth. That fixed the problem but
it still needs replaced for the long term.

Ditto what the others said. look for bad solenoid engage wire that may be shorting.. past that.. sticky bad contacts in the solenoid itself.

save yourself some gried and replace the engage wire anyway with a ne wone with good insulation.. then go from there.. if it happens again.. a new solenoid is in order.. might also check the thumb switch with an ohm meter to make sure it is not shorting out internally.. .. it's very unlikely.. but not out of the realm of possibilities..
