I have a 1960 D14 that is just starting to have the starter driver disengage when turning the fly wheel over. Is this an easy repair as a new starter is 400 bucks and a new starter drive would 32 bucks. If an easy fix i would go with new starter drive for the obvious cheaper option.

When it "disengages" is there a continuous grinding noise, or does the load just come off of the starter and it speeds up (overrunning clutch in the starter drive disengages)?

The obvious choice is to replace the starter drive gear, which isn't a bad job- once you get the starter out! Then there's the ring gear, (yikes)!

Generally, not hard to do. But if I had to go that route I would go through the whole starter. You might find a starter shop to rebuild it. just a guess but $75-150.

No grinding at all just the load coming off the starter and speeds up.

That might be the route to go as well.

If by "disengages" you mean the tractor fires and kicks the starter out, but does not continue running, that's a problem with the tractor not the starter. Engine needs a tuneup so it starts better.

Yes it should be an easy fix. I am thinking there are some youtube videos showing how to replace the Bendix (starter Drive)

I am thing the body of that starter is an MT10 Delco. So the Brushes, Brush holders and Bushings are not that expensive. Whole thing shouldn't be more than $60 to rebuild
