Steering wheel wrap???

Hey all,

Fortunately, Chigger, the "47 2N has been running great but my steering wheel is falling apart.

I had a laced wrap on for abou a year but it is falling apart. Tried one of the stretch overs from Wally-world but they didn"t have one large enough to go over the SW.

Anyone else have this problem and if so what did you use?

As always, thank you for the help and ideas.

Respectfully,

DJ

I use a Lace-On Sport Grip from a Old-School Auto Parts store! Been doing it 4 several years! As they get funky, I just repair them with the dreaded electricion's tape! I have large hands, so it makes the wheel larger & more easy to grip. I run 'em on most of my vehicles. CC

I went some distance farther on my old '49, which was leaving some black residue on my hands. Went to a bicycle shop, and bought some black handlebar wrap. It comes in a roll and width form. I got the 1" wide and did my old steering wheel. It's been on there about twelve years, and still looks just fine.

you can also send it off and have it recoverd too
think this place does it..might have to call and ask i had one done thr but its been a couple of yrs

My steering wheel was doing the same thing to my hands. I went to Home Depot and bought this stuff in the paint section that is sort of a rubberized paint in a rattle can. It comes in red, black, green and yellow i believe. It now has a good feel to it (like rubber) and no more residue on hands. I also put the red rubberized paint on my floorboards and it makes them much more non-skid.

One of the most fortunate tricks I've learned about tractor paint is CLEAR COAT. Spray a GOOD clear coat on ANY surface and it seals and refreshes the color without changing anything. That powdery oxidation just goes away. Works so well on steering wheels and shift knobs, I stopped buying them. No masking or worry about a bit of overspray either.

I bought my N 11 years ago and it had black electrical tape wrapped over the entire thing. You can tell some chunks of the plastic are missing because of the dips in the tape. Last year I had to add another layer over one portion. It has held up really well with virtually no cost.

I always wear light-weight white gloves when I'm on the tractor. I also added one of the $7 wheel knobs from the local farm store. I'll never be without one of those knobs again!

i wrapped mine with hemp rope. use a small diameter rope. wet it first, then wrap it tight. it's lasted two years with no sign of ware. and its cheap too.

I think some 2n steering shafts are splined and some are keyed so before ordering I would remove old one first ( may also be tough to remove) Bill

Good idea. Try wrapping it with cotton cord in a chevron pattern, like a ship's helm/boat steering wheel (or old Bentley.)
