STOCK PULLING

HI y'all. Would like to ask ? r 2. I believe i will pull my stock farmall h for the 2nd time ever. At 3906lb(me and tractor), i came in 2nd in 4500lb so with that can i add 3 wights too the side on the back wheels ? 11.2 hard tires what would a good air pressure ? Also the fix drawbar 15" from ground, should i move it too 20"?
thanks for any and all help FARMALLDANZIL.

Always Always Always have drawbar as hi as possible and as short as possible generally 18" from center of axle. clip on weights are better. The best I have seen are 1/2 inch wide and patterned after 100 lb, IHC weights and cut for 50 lb exactly.

lack of funds ,milk price has went real low, cant afford to pull as much as i would like, are you going to Salem saturday?

Yes I'm going if at all possible, but I kind of hate to becouse last year I did so good, I'll never do that good again.

I have 10 or more IH wights. the fixed bar is about 23" on C/L. Can i bolt the fixed and swinging bar together ? I seen some with trailer hitch balls bolted too the fixed bar?

I would shorten my fixed drawbar to about 14" from the center of the axle. then cut out a plate with a 3" hole in it and bolt it to your drawbar making it 18" from center of axle then maybe two turn-buckels, or maybe even ready thread rods where your braces are now. I went around taking pictures of varous tractor hitches and weight brackets. for at least 3 yrs to build latest tractor.

shortest hitch isn't always the best, on a nose heavy tractor like a Farmall or Massey a longer hitch will give you some weight transfer, proper length will be determined by holding the front end down without an excess of front end weight, I have placed several hundred times with a 26" long hitch on a DC Case with 3 to 500 pounds of weight on the front creating alot of down pull, ask most any puller from sw Mn or se SD about Brutus they will know what you are talking about. Hitches on my newer pullers are 20-22" long.

Drawbar must be at the highest legal position. For/aft drawbar length will depend on traction and for/aft balance.
If traction is weak and there is no more weight to move from the front to back. Stretch the drawbar out longer.
You discovering that putting all the stock HP to the ground via good traction and balance. Will beat something souped to twice factory HP but hasn't balanced the tractor, wrong tire pressure etc.

Is there some starting point, a % of back to front? Tractor 3900# eng. rebuilt 20+ yr. whit standard kit and used very little. With no way to test, then it must be a guest.(poet and don't know it). For a short time i though about a chain and tree! then it didn't sound too bright. I guest a good guest wood be the best with no way to test.
thanks FARMALLDANZIL.

these short hitch people just dont get simple physics. the longer
the bar the more leverage. longer = more down pull on the rear of
tractor. period. same with height. higher = more down pull on
rear of tractor. find the balance point that gets front just off the
ground.

hey doug, missed you at volga on saturday.not much of a turnout there.nobody in my first two classes.i got a 4th place in 4500 though.starting to work on e-gleaner motor a little bit.see ya.Mike-

Actually, us short hitch people DO get simple physics. The closer the hitch point to the center of the axle, the more down pull you get on the rear axle w/o lifting the front tires. If you cant lift the front, you may want to make it longer...but as long as you can lift the front w/ the hitch as short as the rules allow, it WILL be to your advantage.

If shorter wasnt better, then why do the people that make the rules specify a minimum length instead of a maximum length?
