Stock WD Pistons

I have a Wd and have a Wd45 crank that I would like to install in WD with stock rods and pistons. Will this cause piston and head clearance problems or to much compression for pump gas? I also have a WD45 distributor and drive. Will the distributor and drive fit the WD block and drive? Sorry for the long post.
Thanks

Not sure on the piston hight. I do know that the dist will bolt on. Is it the one with the gov attached, or does it have the drive like the mag does? A true 45 dist will have 3 bolts. You'll have to remove the gov housing and replace it all with the 45 one. I think someone back in the day made aftermarket distributors that would use the 2 mag mount bolts and the mag style drive. Those are a bit easier to install.

Aaron I believe the ignition system is part of th govenor on the WD45. Aaron do you have a WD
with a WD45 crank and stock WD pistons and rods?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

i may be wrong, but i think if you use the 45 cran, you have to use 45 pistons. That should be about 6.5 :1 compression... if you want more, you can change to D17 or 175 pistons and get more compression. You can use the 45 rods. I think the problemm comes when you put the 45 crank in and try to reuse the old WD pistons. THe 45 has the longer throw crank. Any pistons built after the 45 will work.

You are correct about the 45 ign being part of the gov. Still a failry easy swap. You can find the dist that drives off of the mag style drive on eBay fairly easily. Saves removing the gov. I've got a WD with a 45 crank, but I bought new 45 pistions when I rebuilt it. Also have a 45 head, carb, and intake. The rods are the same, but I think you'll need to find 45 or newer pistons.

I guess it depends on what your plans are for this tractor. I am a puller, and this is a very inexpensive build for some cheap horsepower. I have put together 3 over the years. Ends up to a 9 to 1 comp. ratio and about 170 lbs. cranking presure. Pulling I can get by on 93-94 octane pump gas. If not working hard 87 might work fine. That compression increase is good for 8-10 horse.Be sure to use bigger wd-45 carb.

Orange if you know how far the wd pistons at top dead center where down blow the deck of the 201 engine then adding the 4.5 stroke crank will move them up .250 or 1/4 inch toward the deck at tdc.

i think thats the problem with puttinga 45 crank in a WD with WD pistons. Your compression goes up in the 11 or 12 range. YOu have to put WD45 or newer pistons in when you do the WD45 crank to keep the compression reasonable. Pin position in the piston is different. I think the rod lengths are all the same.

yes Steve I know the rod length is the same and the cylinder heads are the same so the compression is made by the length of the piston . this measurment is from the center of thr wrist pin to the top of the piston. It will be a considerable amount below the deck at 6.1 compression ratio . The 45 crank will move the piston up 1/4 a inch higher than the wd crank will at tdc.

i built the same motor last winter.Took a wd block and just added a 45 crank every thing works fine.the pistons will not hit the head.
u will like the power change.
