stroking JD G

My father is stoking his "50 JD G. He looked at the pistons and the bottom wiper ring will be coming out of the cylinder skirt. He going to stroke it 3/8". He has .125 over aluminum high compression pistons in the tractor. He wanting to know, if he removes the wiper ring from the pistons, that the pistons will not rub against the cylinder and score the cylinder walls.
Any help would be appreciated.

The common fix for this is to move the bottom oil ring up to the first ring grove above the wrist pin. Usually this involves making the groove wider to accept the oil ring, and drilling drainback holes in the ring groove. I've done this before on an A, and didn't have any problem with scuffing. sounds like alot of work for only 3/8" stroke. why only 3/8"in???

I might be mistaken on the 3/8" stroke. All I know is he is doing an offset stroke on the crank.

He's looking for more compression and a wee bit of displacement. For the absolute lowest price.

I would agree that offset grinding a Deere is pretty much a waste of time and effort. Why people offset grind a G 3/8" is that you can cut it down to a 3" crankpin, use an A rod and kick the compression up while gaining a few CI.

You will need to weld on crank some as the g rod is wider than the A rod. while you are welding on the crank stroking it 1" is pretty easy. it wont cost much or any more. pretty durable tough combination. Mine is stroked 1 1/4". I put the scraper ring in the fourth grove and it has run a long time. hand start yet as well.Paul

I have one welded and one not, and have had no problems with either.. (almost 10yrs on the non welded one..)
The machine shop offered to just charge the same for a normal grind to offset grind it.. (the crank journals were not very good.) I had a set of A rods.. I was just out a set of bearings..
I have one running with the oil wiper moved up to the top.. the other is running no oil wiper..
