Stuck brake drum

A few weeks ago I installed new brakes in my 52 8n. After it started to squeel I checked the archives and found that I should have shaved the outside edge of the pad to make a better fit.

I removed and fixed the right side without any problems. The left side I cannot remove. I have adjusted the shoes in as far as they will go and still the drum won't come off. I fear that a spring may have let go or something else has happened that prevents the shoes from squeezing in enough to let the drum slide off. It does slide until the outside of the drum is flush with the hub and that is it.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Thanks

If all you are removing it for is to shave the edges forget it. It's really not that important. Mine work fine without shaving or beveling squat.
If you just have to get it apart: Try whacking the drum with a hammer in several locations as you work the thing outward. Having a helper stomp and release the brake pedal while you are whacking and pulling also helps.

I been doing a LOT of that lately! It will slide out if you stay at it. Mine is a 2N but they look reasonably similar in the diagrams. The goal is to get the guts of the brake out of the drum. Those "too thick" shoe liners are hanging in the drum. You have to lever it out (Careful of your dust seal) or hammer it. I have a nice heavy rolled leather hammer I can haul off and beat the tar out of it without damage. Something similar or a block of wood to take the blow. This job is WAY easier with a friend.

My 600 squeals now and then on one side after the that brake has been used.Just lifting the pedal with my foot stops the noise.Its been doing it for 23 years and the tractor stops fine.You probably have a rusty ridge on the brake drum that should have been removed when the drum was off.Some times its better to leave well enough alone.
