stupid plow question

I got an old plow given to me the other day and having trouble getting it to operate well. Its a 2 bottom. It says 'No. 16 Frame' on the side of the frame. Its a rope trip, pull type. Can anyone give me some advice on operating it properly? When I pull the rope to trip it to raise back up the wheel won't catch on the ground to start the process. Do i have it too deep/shallow? Also having trouble keeping it hooked up to the tractor in the rough sod. I am about ready to give it back or sell it. I have a new appreciation for you guys that still use them.
Thanks,
Cory

if it rubber tire put a trie chain on the clutch wheel, they have a trip type clutch, may need some work in there oil maybe, do u got the plow hitch loop, , ones iv used have hitch springs that are ajustible to set brake away from tractor hitch bolt plow-loop , i think you have 2 16 inch plows i dont think # 16 is the model could be could be #44 or 55 if spoked rimed

Thanks for the responses.

It is rubber tired with spoke rims with a solid steel rear wheel.

I have adjusted the spring on the hitch that holds it down. I guess it just needs more tension.

Can I just add grease to the wheel clutch zerks or does it need to come apart?

If it says #16 frame and it is a two bottom like he said the only choice is a #44 series. But the #16 frame can be set for 14" or 16" cut. First thing to try is just a brief tug on the rope and let go, if you hold it too long the plow starts to lift then drops again. If that doesn't work the the advice from others is good.

You can't just hook on to a plow & go. It
needs to be set properly. There are
several adjustments with the hitch & trac
tor drawbar, tire placement/spacing etc to
make it pull properly. A misadjusted plow
is a nightmare to use & does a poor job
with heavy draft.
