stupid question

I dont believe there are stupid questions, if you ask it you want to know. There are a lot of smart azz answers though.

I looked all through the F-04 manual and never found the answer I had to ask too when I was real new to working on them ole flat head fours
my best guess was back in the 40s and 50s there were not that many engines out there and it was common knowkledge :)

Kind of like, What's the front of the engine? You drive mostly forward so wouldn't the front of the engine be right in back of the radiator? And wouldn't the number one cylinder be at the front of the engine?

Kind of common sense but still it was a legitimate question. Better to ask before you do anything if you're not sure.

True for most situations, except for finding which main bearing controls the end thrust.
Would it surprise everyone that the belchfire V8s usually have the numbers cast into the intake manifold, & some inline 4s & 6s have it cast near the sparkplug?
