Styled A head

You can shave about .125 off of the face of the head, feather back the "eyebrows" around the valves, along with doing some port work to make it flow better, and with all of that done it will wake the tractor up.

With that being said, the heisler is the way to go though, just have your wallet ready though!

you can shave 325 thousands off a stock head you have to regrind the oil passage though take some off the eyebrows grind the manifold out a little to put a gas or a johnson manifold on electronic ignition also put put those long pistons in they are high compression flat tops they have a groove cut in them for the spark plugs

Its your tractor, do what you want. That being said, here are a few reasons why I highly recommend that you DO NOT try to cut .325" off your cylinder head:

A. Your pushrods will now stick out .325 too far. So then your rocker arms will not have enough adjustment. SOOOO, you either cut off the pushrods or jack up the rocker arm geometry and shim out the rocker stands.

B. The deck surface of the cylinder head will be EXTREMELY thin. You may have trouble holding headgaskets if the head surface flexes much at all. This is why unstlyed G heads on pullers sometimes have headgasket problems, too thin at the gasket surface.

C. After some run time with the head this thin, the deck surface will warp and/or crack. If it cracks, its toast. If it warps, its toast since you have nothing more to cut off becuase you already cut it off.

You ask for a lot of problems whacking on a cylinder head, for very little gain.

There"s my rant on needlessly destroying cylinder heads. On your original question, Hot Rod A hit the nail on the head. A reworked stock head will work until you have spent the $ in other areas (camshaft, rocker arms, carb, increased CI). THEN it becomes necessary to make the investment in an aftermarket cylinder head.
