Substitute for Corn Head grease ????

The Model A Ford guys have been using it for years in the steering boxes, transmissions, and rear ends.I used a lot of the old track and roller grease from JD years ago.We used to use a big glop of that in the steering gears of worn out 2 cylinder tractors..A few years ago somebody looked up the specs of the corn head grease, and found it to be like the cotton picker spindle grease, sold at Tractor supply. It is sold in a squirt top bottle, but you have to work to make it squirt. It seems to stay put in the drooley old Model A's.

Corn head and cotton picker spindle greases are different. Corn head grease is thicker than cotton picker spindle grease.

Corn head grease is a polyurea base NLGI "0" grease.

Cotton picker spindle grease is a Lithium NLGI "00" grease.

Just got some jd corn head grease for. A couple of snow blower auger gearboxes $7.something a tube right from Deere without having any specific "account".

It is the sname as grease for the old SNapper mower. I think if you buy that from snapper it is even higher than JD. I have used the JD in the steering boxes of my tractors. It is worth every penny to me.

AND the grease that costs too much is thickened with clay and may not be compatible with either of the above. Mc Master Carr and WW Grainger I think sell clay based grease. Does cost more than John Deere corn head grease but far less then Bentonite fluid that is probably what you are adding to. Grease is oil with a thickening agent. I suggest compatible thickening agents. Main thing I have been told is to have some grease is better than none.

Corn head grease is being used as a substitute for gear oil in a leaky gearbox; so you're wanting a substitute for the substitute? I suspect the next step would be to add sawdust.
