Super 77 won't start

We picked up a Super 77 diesel today and are trying to get it started. Acts like it is not getting fuel. Cleaned or replaced all fuel filters, can hand pump prime it, but it just won"t run. It will sputter when either is used. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Tractor has 1800 hrs on it and sat inside for the past 2 years. Fuel is new. Should we pull the injectors or is there something in the pump to check first. While pulling it, we don"t even get any smoke out of the exhaust. Thanks, JIm

Did you crack the injector lines at pump while cranking?At injectors to bleed the air?
Should be high pressure fuel coming out at these points.~brad

Crack the injector lines at the pump and the injectors to see if the pump is working. We had a 550 that did that but the piston in the pump broke. Run fine on ether but nothing else. If it is getting through the pump tighten the lines there and leave the ones loose at the injectors. Once your getting fuel there it should run. If not check the injectors.

Also I am not sure on those but do they have a manual pump shutoff or electric? If your not getting fuel out the pump check it also.

I would first crack open the fuel line going from the secondary (final) fuel filter to the injector pump and see if the pump is getting fuel. If its not, its probably a lift pump or fuel line issue. If it is getting fuel there, next crack open the lines at the injectors and see if you are getting fuel at the injectors. Try to start it with the lines cracked open. This will also bleed the system of air. If there is no fuel at injectors, then you have an injector pump problem, if you are getting fuel to the injectors and it still won't start after the air is gone, see what color smoke you are getting and its probably either an injector, compression, or valve issue.

Throttle lever at least half open when cranking?
If you move the governor lever with external spring by hand, it must be very free to move. If control sleeve or linkage hanging up, there will likely be no fuel delivery. Hear fuel returning in the tank when using primer? It should start to smoke at the exhaust after 3 -6 rev with the starter.
