Super 99 vs 570 Super

I have an oliver super 99 GM that I use for local tractor pulls. I am a cockshutt fan and am thinking about buying a 570 super. Which of the tractors would be the stronger puller with original engine configuration? Oliver with 3-71 or the 570 with the 339 Herc?

wow ! could I hire you to tune my 820 ? mine is a FAR cry from my bro's 3-71 as for the 570 ? pretty tough tractor ....

if the 570 is gas and has a crossflow head, they are extremely hard to beat.it can also get down to about 5200 pounds.339's are good for 425-450 cubes, and with the crossflow heads can really be turned hard.339g's are also used in power units and some old trucks had them to.

Does the 3-71 already have the 4 valve head or is pretty much stock? Also remember Hercules sold that DD 339 H with an optional turbo. Adding a turbo to the 3-71? In both case it would still be a stock block configuration. Just asking. J.

I think a lot of what out pulls what has a lot to do with the track and the rules. Our tractor club has a 4 MPH rule for the bigger tractors. I have a 570 Diesel that is completely stock and have outpulled the GMs, 560 and 660 Farmalls in the 9000 and 10,000# classes. The GMs need to get wound up to do really good.If your rules will allow this they are tough to beat.

I would go with the Cockshutt. A stock 3-71 leaves alot to be desired when it comes to making power and they are heavy. Cockshutts are alot lighter and have a differental lock.

If you have an early "Super 99" you can very easy--simply--give your '99' a diet, and enter the 7500 lb. class, with a driver and wheelie bars. Also carrying a few extra suitcase weights. Like they say if "Juice them up a bit", there hard to beat. As for the 570 Cockshutt, I think there a far cry from the "Oliver look-style' of the era", almost like the "ugly duckling", of the flock....just my 2 cents, (No hard feelings)

A couple years ago I pulled against a Super 99 with my 100 percent stock 570 Super and I smoked him bad. As I recall it was 8000 or 9000lb 3mph class. My 570 Super even has the original tires! The only thing I have a tough time with is 4010 and 4020 JD's but they got 20 hp on me!

How about the Super 99 pulling against a John Deere 830 Diesel. How fast can you speed up the 3-71 GM? If you look at the super 99 listings the owners of the 99's are smoking all the 830's . What is the real scoop?
