Finally got the Super A done for my uncle.
As I said before I'm a MM yellow guy, but
I will say the red sprayed nice and the
tractor came out pretty good. Thought I
would share some pics of the process.

Looks good but is it a TRUE restore or just a paint job?? A true restore mean you have taken the time and $$ to bring it back to what it was when new. I hate the term restore since 99% of the time it means a paint job not a true restore

Well Old I guess you have not spent much time on the MM forum. Also not all of the pics uploaded, but I would consider stripping all of the parts off, taking it down to bare metal, fixing leaks, and replacing worn or broken parts doing slightly more than just a paint job. Motor was good or we would have torn it down. My Uncle wanted to use $25 a quart paint....I told him if I was going to do it he would have to do it my way, which is not cutting corners. All of the metal was straightened and skimmed. This ?restore? is probably better than when it was new.

Unfortunately the tractor jockeys/flippers have ruined the word "restore," selling "restored" tractors that are more pigs with lipstick than anything else. Splash a little cheap paint on... It's RESTORED! Doesn't matter that the front end flops around like a dying fish, engine smokes like a freight train, clutch slips, tires rotten and bald... It's RESTORED!

I defer to Roger Welsh's philosophy on old tractors...

Nice job! You took the time to do it right. Forget the naysayers. They love to rain on the parade, and hijack a post.
Back in the day the dealers would fix what needed fixing and paint them for winter specials.
You went way beyond that.

I always regret not taking pictures of my BN back when I rebuilt it. Hope that term is appropriate.

But that was back years before digital cameras so it would have taken probably $100.00 of Kodachrome to record all the steps.

That rebuild included taking every nut and bolt out with the exception of the magneto, as I had gone through that the summer before. Oh! Just remembered I left the seat pan bolted to the seat support arm too!

Every casting was run through the dunk tank at the place I worked and stripped of all paint and grease. All new bearings and seals used. Recall only replacing one or maybe two gears in transmission or was it the PTO? that was something like 30 years ago so memories are not always exact.

One of the main regrets is I did not have any good way to paint so it was painted with Central Tractor rattle cans of Farmall Red.

All these 30 or so years latter it can sit all winter in unheated barn and fire right up in spring ready to mow the approx. 10 acres of lawn. Did need to replace clutch plate once and last summer redo the magneto once more!

great job!!! What alternator did you use? It looks a little smaller than a hitachi 14231 that I uses on my Faramll 100s Thanks

I?m not exactly sure. My Uncle got it, and it is like a mini alternator. He got it from someone who sells a lot of Farmall parts.
