I am trying to get an old super A running. It has been setting for quite some time. The first step was to take the battery out and try to charge it. When I got ready to hook it back up I noticed that the ground cable which runs to the block was hooked to the positive terminal on the batter while the cable hooked to the starter was hooked to the negative terminal on the battery. Is this correct?

It is called POSITIVE ground and is wired as you have described finding it.

Make sure your electrical connections are "clean & bright & tight"

Thanks for the help just wanted to make sure before I went to far. This one has been in the family over 50 years and I would like to get it restored and leave to my grandson eventually

The original 6-volt systems were set up with positive ground, as they were converted to 12 volt they were often switched to negative ground. Just double check which one yours is. Enjoy your Super A, they are a great little tractor. I just got in from plowing driveways with mine. Does a nice job.
