Super C paint

I have used the 2150 IH red before. The paint from my IH dealer is different in the rattle can from the 2150 in the gallon can in that the rattle cans always dries faster and is much less likely to sag or run than the gallon or quart cans of paint.
Can anyone tell my why this is and can anyone recoment a better alternative to the IH paint.
It dosen't seem to hold up as long as I think it should either.
I don't want my Super C to be the wrong shade of red when I am finished.
As I am sure all of you know the amount of work that goes into painting one of these old tractors is a LOT if you do it right so I want to put a good paint on it when I do it.
Please advise,
Dan Sr.

I would use either PPG, Martin Senour or Dupont paint from your local auto paint dealer. PPG's paint code is 71310. Hal

Call the Decal Store at 1-800-286-2171. Hal
PS: Do a search for tractor decals there other places that have them. Your local Case/IH dealer may have them.

My supplier didn't have a cross-over in dupont for 2150. They said they had a Ih paint that was used from 57 thru 55. I bought a qt in Nason brand which is dupont cheaper line. I'll try it this week. If it doesn't look right then I'll only use one coat and i'll have to do some more searching. I have a nice read in the next line up but it didn't cross-over the Nason's. This red looks a little darker then 2150 which the older tractor were a little more red then 2150. I also had a problem painting with the IH 2150. Just couldn't get it to flow correctly. Had no problem with the Nason's paint. BIG difference in price. One qt of Nason is the same as one gallon of IH paint.

400Dtractorman, This is the Nason paint codes for 2150. 96766IC = ful base ss. 96766IB = ful thane urethane ss. 96766II = ful thane acrylic urethane.
96766A is for centari ss = acrylic enamal.
I hope this helps. If it needs to be a little lighter add more grams of orange.

The IH number for paint from mid 1949-1958 was 1102B. I have never seen this number crossed to any of the major brands and may be interested. What is the DuPont number of the paint that you bought?

painting a tractor properly requires alot of work. dont skimp on paint quality. cheaper brands dont last as long without chalking and losing gloss. i use dupont DIC imron for my tractors. it is fairly reasonable in price and VERY durable. ppg and other auto paint suppliers also have very good products. the paint your local ih dealer sells is based on the old synthetic enamels. easy to spray but not very durable. i would gladly sacrafice a miniscule difference in color for durability after the work i just went through. a good color man at your local auto paint supplier can tint to match. be very careful when painting as to ventilation and respirators. todays paint can kill quickly.

spray can paint is going to be different , for one thing, based on the propellant and the thinning agent. probably something super fast in the rattle can..

I used Dupont Nason line paint for my C repaint. I am very happy with it. Properly applied, you will not be disappointed with the finish and durability. the Nason line is plenty good for anything you will do with that tractor, and the finish will probably outlast you.

I don't know about the match--will probably see if my PPG dealer can cross the DuPont number, and try a pint in urethane first -- Thanks!

Thanks SWMO, this paint is nason's fulj-cry11 and the # is 967661D. I'm going to ask the difference between my #ending in D and your # ending in C. This paint seems a little more red then the C that I just painted with the IH 2150.
But I havent' sprayed it on anything yet. I like the way nason goes on better than the IH paint. I'm going to do a grill soon and i'll let you know how it turns out and maybe get you a picture. ED

All you need is the 96766, and the line of paint and quantity you need. You do not need to give the paint mixer the suffixes, that is automatic when you select the line and quantity. If the paint mixer is in a hurry there is a chance that the batches may not be the same.

The Dupont 96766 does not cross well into Nason ful-thane single stage, color quaulity is poor. Nason's N9066IB works great, as per Performance Coatings-Dupont Paint Co.. Looks great, tough finish, nice shine.
