Hello, Have a SC, when it is cold and i start it the coolant is moving through the radiatior, does this mean the t-sat is missing or bad, I have the shop manual and operators manual and I cant see where it shows where the t-stat is located, is it where the top hose comes down out of the rad.
thanks

Are you sure you have a Super C or is it a straight C? Does it have a water pump? If straight C and or no water pump, you may not have a thermostat. Dave

It is located in the neck fastened on the block. So if you remove the upper hose you should see it. So if you see water moving with the cap off there must not be a working one there but remember the water pump is located at the bottom of the rad so it could be moving water in the rad even though the thermostat is working. How warm does the water get after it runs 5 or 10 min.

With the water pump, you will still see a slight amount of circulation even with a closed thermostat, but it is slight. If its' very plainly circulating and flowing well at startup then yes, I'd agree, you have either a thermostat that is stuck open or none at all.

It's located in the outlet/fan bracket, at the hose end. Pull the hose from outlet. You should see a thermostat held in place by a spring clip retainer. If it's not there, you should see at least the notches that the retainer holds into.

Once you get a new one in, you'll see that the stat will wobble a little bit, which is where the very slight flow around a properly fucntioning one comes from.

"it is a super c, i can run for a hour and the temp gauge doesnt move
thanks"
I had the same problem with my IH 240 U (same engine). My thermostat was stuck open. Replaced it and the hose and heats to 170 - 180 degrees now. David.........
