Super C Wiring question

Don t know a lot about a Farmall but had a Super C give to me a couple of years ago with a stuck engine. Pulled the plugs and filled the cylinders up with all different kinds of snake oil and she has been setting ever since. Went out yesterday with a pry bar and was finally able to get the flywheel to turn. Now i get to work on getting her running. My question is,it looks like at one time there may have been a wire from the negative side of the coil to the side terminal on the magneto. Both the coil and magneto have old wire ends still attached but no wire. Can anyone help me out on that? I plan on buying a shop manual once i see if this thing is even going to run. Right now it needs a lot of TLC,axel seals leaking, brakes kinda work, needs front rims and tires.

Thanks,Terry

Thanks Old for your reply. Do you think i should run a new wire between the neg term on the coil to the mag or leave it alone? This tractor was pulled out of a barn and not sure if it ran when it was parked. So i don t know if it needs that wire or not in order to run. Like i said, the wire connectors are still on the terminals but no wire. I am just assuming there was a wire in between at sometime.

Thanks,Terry

Post a picture. It is unlikely that a Super C originally had a magneto. You may have some setup different than the suggested answers assume.

Just to make sure , I would take out the 4 screws in that top cap & see in there is a coil in it yet or if it is hooked up. If not, then go ahead with the external coil.

Terry, here is some info which may help you figure out what you have.

If you have a magneto and NOT a battery powered coil distributor ignition DO NOT DO NOT apply voltage to the points or coil or any old kill switch wire !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you indeed have a converted mag over to a battery powered coil ignition see below.

If it had a Magneto that was converted to a battery powered external coil ignition, the old mag points are then used to conduct (points closed) and then interrupt (points open) coil current at which time the coil fires IT IS NOT THE EXACT SAME OPERATION AS A TRUE DISTRIBUTOR THAT HAS RPM BASED IGNITION ADVANCE CAPABILITY but of course, still works.

If a mag was equipped with a kill switch terminal that was just a wire to the points you could ground out to kill the spark, but that same wire since (and if????) its connected to the points could be used to complete the circuit for an external battery powered coil ignition. In such case the ignition switch would provide hot battery voltage to the coils small + terminal when ON while the coils other small - terminal wires to the points. THATS IF YOURE AT NEGATIVE GROUND, REVERSE FOR POS GROUND

NOTE not there I have no idea what mag or distributor you may or may not have so this may be right or totally wrong so dont anyone have a calf now NO WARRANTY UNDERSTAND!!!!

I got the old thing to start and run for a few seconds this morning so i will probably be in the market for some parts soon. Really needing some good front rims or rims with a decent set of tires.

If it has the nonadjustable main jet type carb pull the cap off of the main jet and make sure you get a good steady flow of gas out of it. Common problem for that type of carb and short run time. I will be up that way the next 2 Wednesdays
