sweetcorn plates

The best we can ever do is to match it up to some of the posts for rounds. They never made a plate specific to sweet corn because it's just like any other seed and can vary in size.

And another trouble with sweet corn seed is that it isn't graded the same as field corn seed...

Best bet is to scour eBay, Craigslist, and a few other sources. Lincoln ag products makes new ones too.

There is no "sweet corn" plate. As Don says, due to the varied seed size of sweet corn a 'correct' plate is pretty much impossible.Ihave found that a 'large/medium round' plate works bestYou will get a few doubles and skips, but good enough for sweet corn.Check with local Coops, cornseed dealers(of which there are many in corn country)Can get them at about $7.00 each. Most of those guys have plates in 'stock'.Or go talk to some older local corn farmers. They probably have some hanging in the shed....

Was kind of assuming there wasn't specific plate but
thought I'd ask . I haven't planted corn in 15
years and have never used anything this old . Thank
you for the info.

JD 290's plates match up with old AC planter plates. You need an adapter center to go from AC planter, to a JD plate, don't know if it works the same, the other way around...

The AC planter must use the adapter 'plate' to use a JD plate. A JD planter needs no 'adapter. to use the 'JD' plate...An AC plate has the proper center/drive lugs and doesnt need adapters. The AC plate will not fit a JD planter. Steve

I have about 20 or more JD corn plates. if you know what number you need just send me an email. I would like $3 each plus shipping

Hi,
No such plates. There are just plates in many, many variations. Other than guess and miss, if you are buying your seed in bulk, the supplier should have a tag from the bag that lists the correct plastic plates for either JD or IH. 'Took a look at three different varieties of sw cn and all three required different plates. Two of the varieties were Bodacious and Candy Corn. Lincoln Ag still sells plates, but you have to know which ones you need. Guessing is expensive and the seed dimensions change from year to year. Good Luck!

May have to buy your seed, then run a few test, say 3 turns of the drive wheel, see how many seed come out and adjust your drive sprockets.

My jd 25b planter gives me a number of spacing options.

You can even fill a few plate holes with jb weld to cut down on the planting count.

Never tried a planter like that as had no use for that much. The seed that I had some of it would have been better in the small round plates. Measure the seed size to sixtyfourths of an inch, go to Deeres planter plate book and look for cells the size or slightly larger than your seed measures.

Actually had a set of small rounds that came in a box of parts with it . Did a couple test runs and they dropped pretty good , only one double with 6 inch or so gap.
