Tech question on John Deere Vac Planter

I am considering buying a 12-row John Deere vacuum planter. I have been told conflicting information on this, but will a 4020 have enough hydraulic capacity to run the vac motor? I am not worried about power or weight. Thanks in advance. Mike

Mike-I pulled one with a 4320 last year. Make sure all of your Hydro preasures are OK. Pump is kind of small but I think it will be alright. Had to keep the RPM no less than 1500 to keep the vacume up to hold the seed. Got along fine but alittle tough on the clutch. Bill Appleton

You would be better off to get a 30 series tractor like a 4430 works perfect for Vac and to pull the 12 rows. Been using a vac planter since 2000 with both a 4430, and 4630 worked wonderful with both. Hope this helps.

If I'm not mistaken dad and his cousins ran one with a 4020 years ago. For about 20 years they ran one with a 4230. There would be little difference if any b/w a 4230 and 4020 with regard to hydraulics. As always though power to spare is better. When he bought his new 4255 in 1989 it handled it much better. I admire you though having that kind of faith in the old girl; I'm sure she won't let you down.
