Tecumseh Solid State Ignition

Can someone tell me if the SSI module on a Tecumseh OH140 will work on a Tecumseh HH120? They appear to be quite similar.

The modules are the same, difference being on the HH110/120 coils the plug lead was avail in 3 different length's & 3 different pn for same,if coil not working, before condeming coil, check that both trigger pins are in flywheel & alt stator as coil is powered by a seperate winding on alt stator, rarely do these go bad,but does happen from time to time, also check ign system with kill lead disconnected.

I have recently repaired two of the old cast iron Tecumseh engine with the solid-state magneto for the Late 60's/Early 70's. One was on a Wheel Horse rider. This engine was a VH-80. The other is on a Massey-Ferguson rider. It is a HH-100. I converted both of these engines to battery type electronic ignition. I mounted a Magnetic Proximity Detector on a piece of angle iron where the stock ignition was. Then outside the engine I mounted a standard external resistor 12 volt coil and a four pin GM HEI ignition module. I also changed the ignition switch to a battery type ignition switch. This is a reality simple conversion.

Thank you for that info!

I'm guessing that the proximity sensor is picking up the trigger pins on the flywheel?

Is just one pin used, or two?

Can you provide a wiring diagram & part number for the module?

Thanks for any additional info.

Both pins are used. The LONG PIN at TDC trips the detector for starting. When the engine is at speed the short pin trips the detector for advance. I think the long pin also supplies a spark when running but it is a wasted spark. Send me a E-mail and I will forward you a E-mail I just sent to another guy. My E-mail should be open.

Hi Kent, guess I didn't see this soon enough to get your e mail but I'd like a drawing of your SSI to HEL convertion for the Tec engines my e mail is gbsb2002(at)yahoo.com remove the at as needed.
Thanks GB
