temp gauge on ford 2n

i have the gauge in the side of the block where the old freeze plug was. but it does not come up at all even after its warmed up. is there any where else i can put it to get a reading. maybe in the upper hose above the t-stat.

5600.......no reading at the bottom of the block, eh? Thats GOOD 'cuz HOT water goes up and out the cylinder head and is regulated by the thermostat in the upper radiator hoze. Iff'n you putt'chur temperture bulb in the hoze, (which is better'n 'nuttin') you will read how yer thermostat operates. Best place is to drill and tap the molded "boss" in side of cylinder head just before the head outlet neck. ......Dell

A temperature gauge should be in the cylinder head near the water outlet.

You will need to improvise as there is no prepared place for one on the flathead Ford engine.

Some folks fabricate a housing for use in the upper radiator hose on the engine side of the thermostat.

i stuck one in once but i put it in between the head and the thermostat -- thats the hot area ! put some silicone around the guage cable and the rad. hose -- worked good

would a small piece of pipe taped to fit the sender would work ok in the upper hose below the t stat. right.

Heads with no boss can still be tapped for the sender,,, don't waist yer time anywhere else,,, install it in the head its not hard to do...

I put a temperature gage in the head of my 1949 8N as shown on HOBO's web page. I also installed a 160 degree thermostat. Plowing snow in 30 degree weather for several hours the gage did not get over 140 degrees. In summer mowing several hours in 90 degree weather the gage got a little over 180 degrees. A gage in the lower portion of your tractor would read much lower then mine.
