Please pray for and SUPPORT the Troops. For one, when AMERICA is at war I will support and defend our troops who are laying their lives on the line for this country and freedoms cause REGARDLESS of whichever political party may happen to be in office, its AMERICAS WAR NOT any nnalert or nnalert war as far as Im concerned.

A thank you today is better then being spit on like what happened to me at the Newark airport back in May of 68 . One thing about it that group of long haired bead wearing hippys will never forget that day , As 6 hippys against one ranger one jarhead forced recon and one navy seal just not good oods in there favor and there was blood on the floor along with a pile of long hair . All the cops asked us is that if we were done yet.

Hi John, The best thing ever happened to me was being drafted. In June 1950 when the Korean War started I told my mom my brother and I would probably be involved in that. She didn't want to hear it. In June 1951 3 days after we graduated from high school my brother joined the Air Force along with about 12 from my class and I was going going to join too, but mom started bawling about 2 sons going to war. I told her she needed to get use to the idea since now I would be drafted.

I went to work for the Federal Government a few weeks later and I worked with a WWI vet that had 33 years of government service. He told me if you want to work for the government there's 3 things you need to be. No1. Need to be a veteran, No2. Its better to be a 10 pointer and N03 was to join the the masons. In 1953 I got drafed and married. Spent my tour at Ft Bragg NC with the 82nd Airborne and was rehired back with the government in 1955. Retired in 1989.

Our neighbor's son was drafted in 1952 and made E7 in eleven months in Korea. We all grew up in a hurry. Hal

I am a vet from the university of Nam, and volenteer driving DAV van to the VA hospital 2 1/2 hrs away. But I still wonder at times what else I could do to say thank you, without spending a lot of low income cash out of the pocket?

Our hospital is one of the finest in Iowa City Iowa, thus we can count our blessings that others do not have. If I lived closer I would help out on bad wether days etc. Yet I simply have no excuse for not doing more.

I have thought of calling the politicians, but have problems not chocking the living crap out of them and their phony photo options, and there heart felt prayers in front of the cameras.

Perhaps someone can give a few ideas that all of us could contribute towards our vets.

Just in case someone offers the yellow ribbon stickers that give a portion of the proceeds towards the vets, no thanks! I would like to give it directly to a vet instead of supporting a well marketed product.

Now some of you recall my old NE IA Dave handle as well as my stories of a blind vet that I haul ocasionaly. He has told others that he enjoys me tricking him, teasing him etc. as few people treat him as someone other than a medical patient. Such things as "Sorry, you will probably have to sit on someone elses lap today as the Van is full, do you want the front seat so you can see out the windshield, (he is TOTALY blind) or do you want to sit in the back seat with the nympho / half drunk, and mostly naked cheerleaders?

And last of all I would like to suggest that thre are very happy moments (some with tears) in volenteering to not only the Vets, but also to your comunity. It certianly looks like in the future we will be forced to help others as our government seems to be drifting towards helping lots of people, or make that folks in foreign countries---no maybe folks from foreign countries---lets make that ---just maybe not our own folks so much.

I retired in 2000, but it is my step-son that I consider to be the Real Veteran in our family. He served 4 years in the Army one year of that in Iraq. He went through more hell in one year than I ever seen in my 20 with the USAF. He is still dealing with the flashbacks today and he has been out for 2 years now. May God bless all the military men and women who ever had to go to combat and those that are there now.
