Today I went to harbor frieght and got a radiator fin comb while I was there to try and straighten the fins on the milk cooler's compressor (built right into the cooler) I figured what the heck, the fins are sure messed up and I've never really seen them very straight. As a young & dumb kid I've probably flattened a few of them myself to boot.

Started on it today after I got home, did maybe 1/8 of it and it sure does look good so far. Just gotta get in the mood again to finish it up- takes lots of time to get them all nice & purty again.... I guess it's easier than replacing the unit, or worse yet the cooler...

I'm glad it's going 1/8 well. That's better than the comb breaking off in the fins. You know these come in sets of different pitches. Not that you asked but it's like combing hair where you can go a short way and get into a tangle. You have to remember bodywork experience where you go back to the point of impact and straighten that up with something almost like a metal pet comb.Because you can't go from straight to smashed. Instead of pulling hair it's fins. you probably knew this.

I once worked in Radiator shop. To straighten fin we used a small screwdriver dulled on edge and needle nose before the comb. Made the job go faster.

Actually it's not too bad so far. I haven't gotten to the really bad spot yet but I figured I'd need a needle nose in those spots as well- nowhere to stick the comb in for starters even! it's only about 10-12" high x about 3 1/2-4' long.

I found that it easier if I cut away the adjacent unused rake teeth that are a different pitch on the H.F. tool. They seem to get in the way. The tool is cheap enough so if you need to do another pitch just buy another tool.
