(quoted from post at 20:52:34 02/06/11) Is there a really good thread seal for the fiting/bowl valve to a gas tank? My 8n needs just a little seal.

Long detailed discussion of this over on teh other forum including the differences or more accurately lack thereof in the various colors of PTFE tape.

Found this in an article on line-- I favor Form-a-gasket No. 3 which specifically states solvent resistance to gasoline.

Blue thread locker,,, are Loctite Gasket eliminator 515 sealant,,, if does not seal it, it can not be sealed. I fix these issues for a living so no fuddy duddy wanna b fancy named tape are past used here. I know what makes a permanent and fast trouble free fix...

really... over a 50 cent gasket from napa???

Loctite Gasket eliminator 515 sealant-bet this costs more than the napa oem replacement part.

Not talking about a bowl gasket,,, really... Its probably to good for a N,,, are a N owner ...

Teflon tape will work but is not a wise choice as it won't dissolve in gasoline so if a small piece breaaks off and ends up in your carb it could plug up a jet orrifice. I use GASOILA E110, google the name and go to their site for details. If'n ya have to use Teflon Tape, use the yellow stuff.

AVOID all versions of "teflon" tape in fuel systems! Small particles will shred and dislodge and end up in your carb jets.
Use Permatex No. 2 gasket paste (usually found in a toothpaste type tube at auto parts stores) and coat only a couple of middle threads. Remains pliable and can be removed in later years if necessary.

(quoted from post at 17:00:22 02/07/11) Thanks for agreeing on the Teflon tape Mike, for awhile I thought my NON LEAKING threads and NON pluged up jets were a dream.

Yes Joe...many times folks get lucky even tho' they used tape. But watch what happens to the shreds and particles next time you have to remove that part....

Joe, I'm with you, I'm trying some tape, like I said I can let it set with gas in the tank to see if it leaks. As the title said "seal threads" on the bowl assembly that goes into the bottom of the gas tank. Since I just wrapped the bottom threads only and it's a external vetical fitting it should be free of "parts of teflon" in the carb.If I remove it the gas in the tank will wash it harmlessly away.

You are a gamble then,,, best you can hope for is a 50/50 chance tape will seal it then a 50/50 chance the tape will not affect anything else... BLUE LOCTITE AND B DONE WITH IT... Are that other sealant that's to pricey for ya....

Loctite PST 592 gets my vote. I've tried other stuff, like teflon tape, and have been disappointed. Buy the small tube and it's around $5. It's rated for fuel fittings.

I realize this is not an airplane but there's a REASON teflon tape is prohibited in airplane fuel systems. (At least they both use the Marvel Schebler carbs!)

Lots of relatively innocuous things are prohibited in aircraft maintenace because of the "10000' Ahhh Sheet!!!" factor if you screw it up. Don't screw it up and it won't be a problem.

Agreed! Using Teflon tape in a fuel system is a potential screw-up...and since alternatives are available, they are preferable, IMO.
