1936 6cyl International stake truck would not run. would idle pretty well but cut off under any load. Throttle cable was bad . Seems better now. Question is what is the throttle cable for anyhow?Seem redundant when you already have a choke and an accelerator button on thr floor but when I pull thre throttle and choke out and sort of ballance them the truck runs.Anyone familiar with the proper use of this throttle? Thanks

Most older trucks have a hand throttle. My jeep has one with notches, each notch is supposed to represent 100 RPM, for PTO use. I use the hand throttle on my pickup for warming up when cold.
I wouldn't use it as a cruise control, I have used it in a tight quarters on a steep hill, with one foot on the clutch and the other on the brake. I like it I wouldn't eliminate it.

I was just wishing my grain truck had one the other day. Handy when you have something that has a PTO on it. As it is I can pull the choke just a tad and it will idle up before the butterfly moves. It may get one eventually as the lift is slow and you have to hold it while raising.

I had one on every school bus I drove. They are great on something that big as the water pump won't move enough coolant at an idle. Gots to keep the passengers warm!
