Tiger 134ci Tappets

Finally got my (4+ years wait) engine back from the machinist. New everything but I need to put it back together. Instructions were to first install New
Tappets. Seven of the new fit, but the front one won't clear the front cam bearing casting. Seven of the old tappet face Diameters measure 1.005, but
the front most tappet face diameter looks like someone had ground it by hand (very rough) to a diameter of .949 which gives it a few Thousandths to
clear the cam bearing casting.
Parts book lists Tappets as EAA-6500-D. I can't find specs for this anywhere. The Tappets supplied (with clearance except for one) Face Dia.
measure 1.029, so I would have to grind off approximately .080.
Has anyone run into this and what if anything did you do to get the required clearance. My machinist is out of town today.
Maybe this is common for this engine rebuild, but I'm green and it's a problem I need help with.

You might want to post this on the ford forum instead of this one.

Maybe, but I thought this forum included All N tractors ? If no other responses, guess I'll try as you suggest.
