Timothy hay

small farm, planted a 6 acre field in timothy/red clover few years ago. This year am baling it all fields(30acres) myslf. think the yeild was good, and got a good quality hay.Clover is starting to thin out some.I don't beleive $4 a square is too much.

4.00 a square should be ok where you from? I live in central Wi and always thought hay should go up in price due to less people making small bales so far not happening.People want horse hay at walmart prices.

Hay markets are so different, place to place. This time of year, hard to get $3.00 a bale locally. I saw loads of hay this time ofyear, at an auction, notbring a dollar a bale.

Just depends on where you are.

This time of year right off the field I try to get 2 bucks a bale, once I handle it the price goes to 2.50 a bale. I sell most of my hay in the spring as I can get a little better price. But I have to store it and then hope that spring doesn't come early and animals go onto pasture early thus not needing late winter hay.

I dont sell anything under 5.00. If it wont bring it now, it will later. Most of my suppliers that I buy squares from at at the 3.50-4.50 range right now. Thats one reason Ive not bought more. Around here you can sell about anything for 5.00 in the winter, but 6.00 takes something pretty special. If I have to give 4.50, I've got to get 6.00 to make what Ive got to make.

Around here at $2 it will sell good right now. If you want to store it all winter you might get more.

I like selling it out of the field and will lower the price to do so. Don't have to store it or move it twice.

Funny thing how people base quality of hay upon color of it. Color of it has little to do with nutritional feed quality of it.
