Tire Chains?

I never thought I would need them but I am looking for a good source and price on chains for 18.4 x 38s. Just too much ice this winter and even my big tractors can't get much traction?

I will be ordering the duo-grip from tirechains.com next week. My co-worker has ordered from them before and was happy with his purchase. I am just south of the store so I might be picking them up and then likely taking the kids to the Carnegie museum or aquarium. Not set in stone yet... Store is in South Fork, PA.

The local Agco and Massey Furgueson dealers have got tire chains right in stock. All dealers problably have chains in stock, but I've seen em out in the open at those dealers. I doubt if a set of chains would be much cheaper elsewhere, they are not exactly a cheap item and would be mighty expensive to ship because they are so heavy, but they make a world of difference on ice/snow.

Hi Aaron , Thought I"d mention something before you bought your chains. I"ve had two sets of double ring chains in the past. I"ve also run other peoples tractors with double ring chains. They were very good chains. I had the chance to buy a like brand new set of duo-grip chains for my Oliver 770. So I did. I"ll tell you what.......I"d never buy another set. Yes , they bite into the ice ok , but no better than , or maybe not even as well as the double ring chains. The thing I don"t like about the duo-grip chains is the ride. The double ring chains are way smoother of a ride. If I"m in third gear , or even worse...second gear , the duo grip chains will bounce the entire tractor up and down a good 3 inches , loaded tires and all. It flexes my seat springs to the max. 1st gear is slow enough it doesn"t bother. 4th gear is fast enough it doesn"t bother. But 3rd , and especially 2nd gear are terrible. Just a little heads up before you purchase your chains. If I were you , I"d buy the double ring chains , or the duo-ladder chains. I have no experience with the duo-ladder type. It seams like the extra cross link would give you a smoother ride.

Gonna paint the Ole Johnny D this spring. I think it's long past due for some Sunday clothes. Gotta split her for a new clutch, I figured we'd go all out. Might even paint the F11 to match.

They are very nice to have on hand, i had a trailer with 6 big round bales stuck in a crossing for three days,had everything i owned hooked on it but just couldn't get a good enough bite to pull it out,finaly found a used set of chains for my 1650 oliver and she walked right out with that load and barely spun at all.

check yor local john deere dealer, I used to work for a deere dealer, and we had good, heavy chains, very reasonably priced, and you don't pay freight and you support your local economy.
