I can't get the rest of the tire worked over the rim. What do I do? Thanks in advance!

Looks like you need to let (squash/push) the opposite side of the tire drop down inside the rim more. Looks to me like it's sitting up on the bead. needs to go down in, off the bead flange to give enough room for what is out to slide in. Make sense? Sometimes can smack the remaining portion with a good size hammer and it will pop over and go on. Just be careful not to hit the rim itself.
 
Mistake #1. Valve stem
You need to remove the valve stem to allow excess air to escape from the tube.
You need to loosen the valves lock nut so that the valve can be pushed into the tire alittle so that air can escape from between the tire and tube.

Once that is done. I honestly would pull the tire back off of the rim, then check to make sure that the tube has not been pinched. If all is good.

Tip time ::: Removing the valve stem and using a vacuum (anyone will work) with a hose attachment is good tool to pull all of the air back out of a tube to like it was new. Doing this allows the tube to go below the rims bead easier when installing.

Putting it back together..

Install the tube making sure that it goes below the bead enough to prevent it from getting pinched.

Mistake #2. No lube
Lube the tire and rim with straight dish soap if you do not have any tire mounting lube on hand. A small paint brush is good for this.
Start the tire on the rim.
While using the tire tool working your way around step or even stomp the tire to keep it below the bead as you work your way around. Take your time and before each new "bite" check to make sure that the tube is below the bead and not in the way of getting pinched by the tire or tire tool.
 
Old has got it.And Dish soap will cause rust and corrosion to steel rims . Might better use water or get some mounting compound . As for the stem not a problem as is if you just finish at the stem. I always like to finish with the last bit at the stem so it doesn't pull on the stem as I pry them on. They make a fish tool that has a short cable you can attch to the stem then pull the stem back through the hole after the tire is on. They work good just need to make sure the stem is aligned with the hole in wheel/rim when done .
 
Combine the pieces of info given by the others here and you have the answers.

First deflate the tube. Remove the Schrader Valve and set it aside, I would remove the rim nut so the tube stem can drop into the rim. A vacuum or or inner tube deflator will pull the tube flat. This is not advised if the tube has ballast in it. Those should be pumped out.

What do you have for tools besides the one iron in your picture? You should have at least a couple irons. What do you have for breaking the bead down? Soap will work, however a lube like Ru-Glyd, Tire Stuff, Murphy's, is your friend.

Next break the beads down (off the seating area of the rim into the drop area), both sides. It likely won't stay in the center but it needs to be free to move to the center.

Look at the rim. The tire comes of the side where the center drop is closest to the bead area. Some rims the drop is centered, some the drop is offset to one side. While standing opposite the valve stem hole, start at the valve stem area and work the tire bead over the rim, I work some in both directions as I go. Again, lube is your friend.

When you get the first side off/over the rim lip, remove the tube. Sometimes that is a battle if the tube has stuck to the tire and or rim.

Repeat for the second side of the tire. It comes off the same side of the rim as the first and the bead needs to be in the drop center area.

Edit: I should have included this before. Going on, reverse the procedure.
Mount the back side of the tire first, keeping the bead, you have over the rim in the drop center. Install the tube, aligning the tube stem with the hole, but not in it. I would leave the tube deflated and the stem out of the hole in the rim. Use a stem fish chain or cable to pull it in after the tire is on the rim. Start the second bead across from the valve stem. Work both ways around the rim, again keeping the bead in the drop canter as you go. I like to inflate and deflate the tire two or three times to let the tube move into place, before doing the final inflation.

Lube for the beads (dismounting and mounting) and dusting the inside of the tire with talc powder, for tube installation, to help the tube move into place are good practices.

If it were I...and I realize it's not, I wouldn't remove the tire assuming you have already pinched the tube, how do you know if you have or not? I'd finish putting the tire on as described inflate it, wait a awhile check it for deflation and if it hasn't lost pressure you're good to go....if it is leaking you get to practice what you've learned here while it's still fresh in your memory.
 
It needs to be in the drop center of the rim for easiest installation. That is the narrowist part of the wheel. I would use either tire soap (preferred), or dish soap to facilitate easier installation. You are almost there.
 
may have to use some c-clamps to squeeze sidewalls opposite where you are working to assist beads to stay in drop center area. Or support tire on blocks/bricks/4x4 to push lower bead up into drop center area.
 
Texted back and forth with Andrew today. He was able to get the tire mounted on the rim. Unfortunately he must have made a hole in the tube because it wouldn’t hold air. He does have an extra tube so he’s gonna try again. Best of luck to him. Tom in Mn.
 
I know it's all resolved now, but just have to say that I am surprised and impressed you got that far without breaking the bead off the rim. Even more so if you tell me that the tube is still inflated in that picture!

Where there is a will, there is a way.

A couple years back I watched a guy on youtube SUCCESSFULLY replace a tube in a backhoe's rear tire with both beads of the tire still on the rim! Think watching someone change their underwear while their pants are still on...
 
Just as a tip, a bucket of Murphy's tire soap is worth it's weight in, well, tire soap/mounting compound. I keep a bucket mixed about half and half with water. It takes a while for the compound to dissolve in the water. The other half of the bucket I leave undiluted because sometime I need something to help get the beads sealed on a tubless tire. I like the murphy's because it doesn't dry up as fast as some of the liquid mounting compounds.

I have good luck liberally spraying the bead with silicone spray. I do so few repairs it doesn't justify my keeping a pail of Murphys on hand
