tire machine question

I bought a 1010 coats tire machine,old and abused with no instructions. On the right side there is a little knob you can pull out or leave in. It doesnt seem to do anything. Can anybody tell me what it is for? Also need a top bead breaker so I dont have to turn tire over,Thanks.

google coats tire changers, and follow the lead to Hennessey Industries for info. Mine has that knob, and it doesn't work differently, in or out.

That knob limits the stroke of the air cylinder for some sizes of tires.

kidbob is right...stroke limiter for bottom bead breaker

Some don't have a top bead breaker.
