tire sizes

I have 16.9 24 tires on my ford. wondering if 14.5 24's will fit the same rims.

I wouldn't know why they wouldn't work. Not sure why you would want to drop down in size. On a rear tractor tire with a tube it would work.

I assume you mean 14.9. Both the 14.9 and 16.9 are designed for a 14" rim. If you have a 14" rim the choice is yours. If 16.9's are recommended for your tractor you will not be happy with the smaller tire. You will have less tractor.

If you 16.9's are on 15" wide rims, like mine are, a 14.9 tire might not work so well. A 14.9 really wants to be on a 12" wide rim.

If you go back to rim sizes, the old size tire markings- you can go one inch wider or narrower than the rim. A 16.9 tire is matched to a 15 inch rim. A 14.5 (aren"t you talking 14.9?) is matched to a 13 inch rim. Go bigger or smaller by one inch- it"s ok but beyond that- they look funny and work extremely poorly. If by chance, your rim is 14 inch- it would work. Decimal tire sizes are measurements at the bulge (maximum width) of the tire- and some will correct me and say they are taken at the face of the tread. Bottom line is- if you are talking old size markings- do not go more than one inch above or below the rim width.
